A brazen thief has stolen 53 right boots from a shopping centre display.

CCTV footage captured the bizarre incident at a Kenmore shopping centre about 7.35pm on Monday, showing a man with a trolley and empty suitcases heading straight for a half-price shoe table.

He is seen making no attempt to hide his identity, leaving his face uncovered as he methodically grabs shoes from the display.

The man appeared relaxed, wearing earphones and gesturing as if having a conversation while filling his suitcase.

The footage then showed him simply walking out of the shopping centre.

Discovery shocks business owner

Shoe Fashions Kenmore owner Tamara Shorrock discovered the theft when she arrived at work on Tuesday morning.

“I was on the phone to a friend, I was like ‘I think we’ve been robbed’,” Shorrock said.

“Just let me out the back. Checked out the back, checked around the shelves, and they were just gone.”

The peculiar nature left Shorrock bewildered as the thief had unknowingly stolen only right shoes, as that’s all that was displayed on the sale table.

The matching left shoes remained safely stored out the back.

The theft has left Shorrock unable to sell the remaining left shoes, creating a significant financial impact.

The stolen shoes were marked down to half-price, meaning the retail value of the missing stock was $7,000.

“That was the sale price. So $14,000 if they weren’t on sale,” Shorrock explained.

Police investigation

Queensland Police are investigating the unusual theft and have appealed for public assistance.

Authorities are asking any shoppers who were at the centre on Monday night and may have seen the man to come forward.

The specific targeting of only right shoes has added to the mystery, with investigators yet to determine a motive.

Owner holds hope

Despite the significant loss, Shorrock remains optimistic about recovering her stock.

“I’m just holding on there with dear hope. I’m going to turn up to work tomorrow. And here are all the boots,” she said.
