Collingwood star Jordan De Goey has suffered a concussion at training on Tuesday morning.

De Goey was ramping up his training in a bid to return from his Achilles issue, but was floored by an accidental collision with teammate Brayden Maynard.

7NEWS cameras captured the moment, which was just a glancing blow, but enough to rattle De Goey, who immediately looked groggy and stumbled off the field.

He was then placed in concussion protocols, which will delay his return to action.

7NEWS reporter Xander McGuire said De Goey was 2-4 weeks away from a return before this latest setback.

“Jordy got a concussion in the ‘fundamentals’ (training drills), so he left the track,” coach Craig McRae said of the innocuous incident.

“It’s a sad week for Jordy, he’s just starting to get there and he’s obviously going to be in the (concussion) protocols for 10-14 days.”

De Goey hasn’t played a senior game since Round 9, restricted to just five matches this year due to an Achilles issue.

But the 29-year-old had been ramping up his training in a bid to return for the back half of the season.

The Magpies are taking their time with him, hoping the dangerous midfielder/forward will be ready for the finals.

Tuesday was supposed to be a full training session for De Goey.

At his best, he is one of the league’s most dangerous players.

But since playing a key role in Collingwood’s 2023 premiership, a succession of injuries have restricted him to 13 senior games last season and now this year’s interrupted campaign.

In better news for the Magpies, Maynard will return from a torn plantar fascia in Friday night’s clash against Carlton.

But veteran Steele Sidebottom is unlikely to play due to illness and Bobby Hill remains day-to-day as he deals with personal issues.

Forgotten midfielder Tom Mitchell is a chance to play his first game of the season after a string of impressive performances at VFL level.
