Two teenagers have been charged over the alleged stabbing murder of a man in Western Sydney last week.

Police said they were called after two unknown males, dressed in dark clothing and disguises, jumped 21-year-old Luke Manassa when he and his girlfriend arrived at a home on Driftway Dr in Pemulwuy about 10.45pm on June 26.

Manassa received multiple stab wounds but managed to get back into his car and drive a short distance away before succumbing to his injuries.

Paramedics attempted to treat him, however he could not be revived.

Manassa graduated from UTS last year, having studied property economics, and described himself as a businessman in a recent podcast appearance.

He was known to police but was reportedly not a “well-known” crime figure.

Strike Force Hickety was established to investigate the alleged murder, police said, and simultaneous search warrants in South Penrith, Mt Druitt and Woodcroft were carried out about 6am on Thursday.

During the searches, police arrested a 17-year-old boy in South Penrith and charged him with murder and failure to comply with digital evidence access.

A second teenager, a 16-year-old boy, was arrested in Mt Druitt and also charged with murder.

Both teenagers were refused bail and are due to appear in children court on Friday.

Police said during the search warrant in Woodcroft, officers seized what they will allege was used as the getaway car.

Speaking to media on Friday, Detective Superintendent Joe Doueihi said police believe Manassa was the victim of an ambush style attack, and that the alleged offenders waited for him to arrive.

Both teenagers were armed with machetes, hunting style knives. The two are known to police and are linked to Western Sydney street gangs.

Doueihi said the motive for the alleged attack remains unknown.

He also confirmed that Manassa was not known to police and were now looking into a line of enquiry that Manassa was killed in a case of mistaken identity.

“We believe that these young offenders were contracted by someone to conduct this killing, we don’t know who those people are of if they’re involved in any particular organised crime group,” Doueihi said.

Doueihi called the attack amateurish and disorganised, but that there was “no question the intention was to murder that person”.

Manassa’s family are “absolutely devastated”, Doueihi said.

“They are struggling and doing it tough.”

Manassa’s family have maintained that he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, Doueihi said.

Investigations are continuing.
