A stroke survivor says she thought she was going to die as a car repeatedly rammed into the SUV she was a passenger in during a terrifying ordeal caught on camera.

Kerry Kennedy, 64, suffers paralysis in one arm and could not open the door to escape as the other vehicle, a white Mazda hatchback, continued to reverse and slam into the blue SUV almost a dozen times.

Speaking exclusively to 7NEWS, Kennedy and her full-time carer, Nick*, said he pleaded with the other driver to stop the rampage at a service station in Whyalla Norrie, a suburb of Whyalla on the Eyre Peninsula of South Australia, on Tuesday.

Kennedy was violently flung around inside the vehicle and hit her head on the dashboard at least once but was lucky to walk away with only minor injuries.

She was taken to Whyalla Hospital with a bump to her head and cuts to her legs.

“I thought I had done more damage,” she told 7NEWS.

“I had a stroke and I am paralysed, I couldn’t move my arm.

“I thought, I am gone, I am gone.”

Nick’s attempts to get Kennedy out of the car were in vain as the Mazda kept ramming it.

“Watching her lurch each time the car hit, it was pretty difficult in trying to get her out,” he said.

“Maybe she (the Mazda driver) was having a bad day, I don’t really know.”

Both Kennedy and Nick told 7NEWS the incident started earlier on the Lincoln Hwy as they drove to the local shops, when the Mazda driver suddenly stopped in front of them and accused Nick, who was behind the wheel, of tailgating.

“She stopped, got out of the car and started abusing me,” Nick said.

“I put the car in reverse, she again approached the vehicle twice, then followed us back to the Whyalla service station.”

Nick says when he asked the driver why she was ramming them at the service station, she yelled: “Because I am a psycho.”

Both he and Kennedy said they did not know the woman who was driving.

A 23year-old woman from the town of Iron Knob, about 50km northwest of Whyalla, was arrested at the service station on Ekblom St when police responded to reports of a road rage incident about 2.20pm on Tuesday.

She was later charged with acts to endanger life, driving in a manner dangerous to the public and property damage.

On Wednesday, she was bailed and is due to appear in Whyalla Magistrates Court on July 1.
