“It will be alleged, the driver and sole occupant, a 55-year-old Red Hill man returned a positive result.”
Renouf is not just a legend of the Broncos, but also represented the Australian Kangaroos on 11 occasions.
He played in four premierships for the Broncos in the 1990s and is still the club’s all-time leading try scorer (with 142).
“He was transported to Brisbane City Watchhouse, where he returned a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.197 per cent,” police said.
Renouf is also a father of five who has had a high-profile battle with type-1 diabetes.
“The 55-year-old man has since had his licence suspended and was charged with one count of driving under the influence of liquor,” police said.
He is expected to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday, July 16.
On June 2, Broncos media manager Melissa Mallet also received a high-range drink driving charge in Paddington.
It has been alleged Mallet crashed into two parked cars while under the influence. She has not entered a plea.
While a legend of the club, Renouf holds no official position at the Broncos.
