Himavat by Bô Yin Râ
The Three Sages Substack continues its presentation of works by the Luminary Bô Yin Râ in cooperation with Books to Light, publisher and copyright holder of the complete English translation of the Luminary’s masterwork: the 32-volume German-language compendium of his spiritual guidance under the general title of Hortus Conclusus (“The Enclosed Garden”).
Bô Yin Râ was the spiritual name of Joseph Anton Schneiderfranken, who was born in Aschaffenburg, Germany, in 1876 and who passed away in Lugano, Switzerland, in 1943. In his explanations of spiritual realities and the inner path thereto, Bô Yin Râ openly identified himself as part of the same society of Luminaries of the First Light (Leuchtenden des Urlichts) to which Jesus Christ himself belonged.
The Luminaries consist of those human individuals with ultimate responsibility for the spiritual destiny of all humanity on planet earth. Their terrestrial headquarters are located in the heart of Asia, and they have been providing their guidance for millennia. The existence of the Luminaries is hinted at in the Bible by references to the Order of Melchizedek of which Jesus was a priest (Hebrews 7:1-28).
It is extremely rare for a Luminary to work openly and in public as Jesus and Bô Yin Râ have done. Bô Yin Râ wrote that the work of the Luminaries is still at an early stage. This idea is supported by the realization that in both cultural and ethical terms humanity is not far removed from a primitive state of savage barbarism. Events in the world today show this clearly.
At the same time, humanity’s spiritual hunger is shown by the proliferation of sects and cults claiming to show the way, along with the course of the historic religions. But it is not necessary that vast numbers of people embrace the teachings of the Luminaries for the world to change.
At present the number of people with spiritual hunger is substantial. During Bô Yin Râ’s lifetime over a million people in the German-speaking world purchased and read his books until they were banned by the Third Reich. More and more people are reading the books in Germany today, and they are also being widely translated and read in other languages, including English. Bô Yin Râ predicted that a time would come when everyone on earth who was seeking the spiritual life would read and study his works. We at Three Sages are trying to do our own small part in making them better known and more available in the U.S. and among other English-speaking people.
One of the key facts about Bô Yin Râ’s teachings is that he clearly expressed the necessity of answering the fundamental question: What is a human being? If we are honest, we must face the fact that we really don’t know the answer to that question. Not that there is a shortage of those attempting to provide an answer, many of these being quite fantastic. Rather the problem often is that the answers are incomplete, mutually contradictory, or self-serving. In the absence of a satisfactory answer, we lack the inner assurance and self-confidence needed to resist the negative forces that would enslave and exploit us during our sojourn on earth. On the other hand, true self-knowledge as defined by Bô Yin Râ, and previously by Jesus, has the potential to assist us in becoming truly happy, joyful, and free, both in this world and in the world we all must enter at death. How to accomplish this? Bô Yin Râ’s teachings constitute what is always most rare: authentic guidance.
Bô Yin Râ’s Hortus Conclusus is a comprehensive work but is broken down into 32 separate books, each of which approaches spirituality from a different though complementary angle. But the core is the trilogy consisting of 1) The Book on the Living God; 2) The Book on the Beyond; and 3) The Book on Man.
The first of these three volumes, The Book on the Living God, may be read in translation in an on-line version published by the Kober Press of Berkeley, CA, which is available HERE.
The second volume, The Book on the Beyond, is available in the Books to Light translation published by Books to Light and available in the series presented by Three Sages HERE.
What you are now about to read is the Books to Light translation of the third book of the trilogy, The Book on Man. We can promise that if you read these books attentively you will not view your life and purpose in the same light as you did before you began. We wish you well on this most important and personal of all journeys.
The “Epilogue” and the short statement called “Final Teaching” complete Bô Yin Râ’s presentation on the exact structure of humanity’s presence on planet earth. He points out that “this earth cannot be man’s homeland” and goes on to summarize what must be understood for individuals to make the actual inner journey to the place in consciousness that is truly our divine destiny. Every one of us exists somewhere on the spectrum of that realization. Every one of us is called to the place within where that realization comes to life. Every one of us has death of the physical body as our immediate destination but eternal life afterwards. What stands in our way of realization in this life is identification with externals and their deceptions. What gives us hope is the existence of Luminaries like Bô Yin Râ who offer guidance in the long journey of becoming who we really are, a journey that reaches fulfillment at the peak of “Himavat,” as shown in the illustration above.

Epilogue
Final Teaching!
We have now seen man on all of his paths.
We saw him at his origins when he still lived in a divine state, and we saw his ‘fall’ from the exalted light.
We saw how he united himself with the animal and how, from his self-created exile, he strives to regain the happiness of his origins.
We have accompanied him on paths of error and on the path to the truth; thus we recognized that this earth cannot be man’s homeland and we saw the truth contained in the words of one who knew: – –
“For the earnest expectation of the creature waits for the manifestation of the sons of God!” –
You whom I address here, – you are man yourself, and you can become a ‘redeemer of all creation’, a ‘child of God’, one of the ‘children of light’. – –
Of course you can, if that is what you desire, find your meager joy as a ‘child of this world’, one who is under the spell of external things.
It is you, and you alone, who makes the choice; nothing can oppose your will once you have made that choice. –
But it is making this very choice which perhaps you find so very hard.
You would like to strive for the highest goal, but still you do not have the will…
If only you could first have that will, the blessedness of the one who wills would tear you from all your doubts with a cry of joy. – – –
Those who described the path to the light as a way of continual sacrifice and renunciation have sinned greatly against you; for in this way they have bound your will, paralyzed with fear, to the earth. –
You can see from what I am saying that you have been falsely counselled; your path to the light need never prevent you from plucking the flowers and precious fruits growing on its verges.
You will only learn to love this life on earth properly when you know you are on your path to the light. – – –
Your path to the light is your path to yourself, and – to your God who is concealing himself within you.
It is the ‘living’ God of whom I speak, and not a ‘god’ of idolaters of any kind. –
The ‘living God’ can easily be found if you courageously put your trust in him, even before you know him; yet he will vanish further and further away from you the more anxiously you demand ‘proof’ of his actual existence and proof that the power to approach him can be found within you…
The further you distance yourself from him in this way, the more he will elude you, so that you will become prey to that external world which you could command if you were consciously at one with your God. – –
It is only an act of consciousness which gives you the key to open all the doors leading to most mysterious wisdom…
Even in this external life you are living only in the region which your knowledge about yourself reveals to you; – and many who live in the same place will be aware of it in quite a different way, within the most distinct worlds of experience encompassed by the realm of the external world. – –
But you have become so attached to the existence of these external things that it may appear to you ‘miraculous’ when you hear of someone who can consciously enter a transcending world you can scarcely imagine, because your consciousness oscillates in rhythms quite different from those oscillations revealing the realm of the transcending world to the other person…
True ‘reality’ for you is the world of external things; suspiciously you turn to your inner life where you think only ‘imagination’ and fantasy are at work.
Here too is true what I said before: – –You can never find ‘reality’ within yourself if you do not trust in it courageously before you even know it…
You will move further and further away from reality the more anxiously you fear ‘deception’ and first want to have ‘proof’ where ‘proof’ will only smile on you as the crown of your courageous striving. –
You act rightly, and your consciousness has guided you well, if you always first want to have ‘proof’ in this external world before trusting it, for this world of external things is indeed a world of deception, and even the ‘proof’ it can secure for you is rarely free of deception. –
You are so accustomed to protecting yourself before you act in a world of continual deceit that you think the same mistrust is necessary in the world of ‘reality’. –
Within your ‘truth’, which has become unimpeachable for you through ‘proof’, there is so much crude or subtle deception that you have lost every measure of things, – and if once you are really led onto the track of true reality and find absolute truth, you anxiously chase it away from you because you think you are caught in the trap of vain delusion and deception, and because you have long ago become slave to your own ‘truth’. – – –
You will first have to learn to walk upon completely new paths before you can one day reach the truth as it really is!
Here a new evaluation of all values is most urgently needed!
There will be no end of ‘thinkers’ who think up their own ‘truths’; if you are content with speculative ‘truths’, you will be easily able to find that form of ‘truth’ which suits your prejudices and your outward senses.
But if you would reach truth itself, as it is, radiantly working in eternally new reality, you will have to seek within yourself; only within your innermost self will truth one day reveal itself unveiled.
Then you will recognize most clearly what this book seeks to tell you.
In its new edition which you hold in your hands I sought to make some things clearer so that no doubts would arise as to how you should interpret my words, for them to become a blessing to you.
But even the clearest form of expression will be of little use to you if you do not strive within yourself to raise yourself towards light-filled clarity. –
Once you have attained clarity within yourself, none of my words will continue to be ‘obscure’ to you. For what I come to proclaim is ‘light’ in itself, and whoever is willing to come to the light will find here what he is looking for. –
I willingly admit that in this book I have often had to create words for things difficult to explain, and that these words will only reveal themselves to those who willingly empathize with them.
If someone brings you news of a country where there is gold to be mined, you will not take offense if he found it difficult to describe the way to get there which is unknown to you…
Well then: – I too am describing to you here a path which takes you to a ‘land of gold’!
It is worth learning to interpret my words correctly…
And if you do not lack the courage to set off joyfully on the path I am showing you, you will indeed find – the richest land of gold within you, and it shall be a land that no one else can ever lay claim to. – – –
Those who would help you
Must be of the same kind!
The brothers in the light
Giving you counsel
Are men like you!
Not beings without feelings –
Unmoved by anything, –
And dead to life! – –
What men yearn for
Is holy to them; –
Yet their eyes are fixed
Upon the last goals…
All desires
In sin and error
Are revealed to us,
As a pathless searching –
For eternal beauty…
And so we prepare
Paths to walk upon.
And so we guide
On the way to the light, – –
The erring brothers
Understanding
In love. – – – –
