Lives have been charged forever after two players scored an equal share of Oz Lotto’s $40 million jackpot.

A Tasmanian who picked up a last-minute ticket and a mystery player from Queensland’s Hervey Bay have been turned into instant multimillionaires by Tuesday’s draw.

The winning numbers were 2, 19, 27, 35, 7, 22 and 30. The supplementary numbers were 37, 41 and 32.

“I’ll paint you a really good picture of what that means for us. We’ve been renting and have been looking for another house to move to. This is like – now we’ll just buy a house,” the Tasmanian winner told The Lott, moments after the win.   “I’m also getting close to retirement so that’s something we can look at now.

“We’ll probably do some travelling overseas too. I’ve always wanted to go to Texas and Arizona.”

The win that almost didn’t happen

The man explained how the win almost did not happen because he was held up at work.

“I struggled to get to the newsagent tonight. I was late from work and got there in time – a couple of minutes before closing,” he said.   “I also normally play a standard QuickPick ticket, but this time, we filled out the form.

“My partner picked some numbers and I added some.”   His winning entry was purchased at Sorell Lucky Agency in Sorell, northeast of Hobart.

Mystery second winner

The other lucky entry was bought from Nextra Fraser Gateway Newsagency in Urraween, a suburb of Hervey Bay in Queensland’s Fraser Coast Region.

“You may not think it’s possible you’re the $20 million Oz Lotto winner we’re searching for, but if you purchased an entry into tonight’s draw that you haven’t checked yet, you’re in with a chance,” The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said.   “We’re urging all Hervey Bay players to check their entries as soon as possible.”
