In the area of USB chargers, Ugreen is currently one of the best manufacturers on the market. This is also because Ugreen offers a suitable charger for every need. For example, if you have a lot of devices, the Ugreen X766 may be just the right model for you.
The Ugreen X766 offers 8 USB ports and an output of up to 200 W. The charger is quite affordable at around € 60. In the test we want to take a look at whether the Ugreen 200 W 8-Port Gan Fast Charger can convince.
The Ugreen 200 W 8-Port Gan Fast Charger in the test
With an output of 200 W and a whopping 8 USB ports, it is not surprising that we have a slightly larger charger here in front of us.
However, the charger with 111 x 106 x 36 mm and a weight of 670 g is a real chunk even for these performance values. So we definitely have no travel charger here, but this is clearly intended and made for your desk.
Here this can be set up or upside down. A base is included for the latter. Due to the high performance, Ugreen uses a 3-pin network cable, which is of course also included.
Connections of the Ugreen 200 W 8-Port Gan Fast Charger
The charger has 6x USB-C ports and 2x USB-A ports, which is a very sensible distribution.
- USB C 1/2/3 – 100 W USB PD – 5V/3A, 9V/3A, 12V/3A, 15V/3A, 20V/5A
- USB C 4/5 – 30 W USB PD – 5V/3A, 9V/3A, 12V/2,5A
- USB C 6 – 15 W – 5V/3A
- USB A 1/2 – 15W – 5V/3A
The first 3 USB-C ports basically offer an output of up to 100 W according to the USB Power Delivery Standard. Accordingly, these also have enough power for larger devices such as notebooks, but of course are also suitable for smartphones and tablets. Thanks to USB Power Delivery, they are also universally compatible.
USB C 4 and 5 offer a reduced performance of 30 W, which is still sufficient for many smartphones. Usb C 6, excitingly, does without USB Power Delivery in the narrower sense and only offers 5V/3A.
The same applies to USB-A ports. Accordingly, these are particularly suitable for Bluetooth headphones, earphones and similar small devices. Loading smartphones is also possible on these ports, but at a reduced speed.
Interesting service distribution
The charger offers a maximum output of 200 W. Accordingly, it has to throttle if you use several ports at once.
However, this throttles a little differently than I would have expected. Apparently 15 W are always “reserved” for the USB A ports. So it is not possible to call up 2x 100 W from the charger. If you use USB C 1 and USB C 2, we have an output of 100 + 85 W. If you use USB C 1, 2 and 3, we have 65 + 65 + 45 W.
Mit PPS
As expected, the Ugreen 200 W charger has quite extensive support for the PPS standard.
- USB C 1/2/3-5-21 V at up to 5 a
- USB C 4/5-5-11 V at up to 2.75 a
USB C 1/2/3 in particular have a perfect PPS range! This means that the charger can also charge Samsung smartphones with the full 45 W.
Load test
I undertake all chargers in the test. Here I load them for period X with 100 % of the advertised performance. Fortunately, the Ugreen 200 W 8-Port Gan Fast Charger can really deliver 200 W!
Even after around 8 hours of 200 W Last, the charger had not heated up too much.
Tension stability
Let’s take a look at the general voltage stability of the charger and the primary USB-C port. So I checked how the voltage changes depending on the load. In practice, this is not quite as relevant to the charging speed, provided that we do not have any outliers about the limit values or too wild fluctuating the tensions.
The tension stability is not the best I have ever seen, but also not problematic. The voltage under load increases a piece, especially on the 5V and 9V level, but remains within the limit values.
Power consumption in idle
In idling, the charger needs approx. 0.15 W.
Efficiency
Finally, we come to the efficiency of the Ugreen 200 W 8-Port Gan Fast Chargers, i.e. the relationship of performance that is recorded compared to the performance that is issued.
In the test, the efficiency fluctuated between 77.9 % at 5 W load and 92.2 % at full load. These are very good values, also compared to other 200-W-class chargers.
The Ugreen charger offers better efficiency than the anchor Prime 200W, especially at low and medium load.
Conclusion
If you are looking for a powerful charger with extra many ports, the Ugreen 200 W 8-Port Gan Fast Charger is currently my top recommendation. So there is not much to complain about at the charger.
We have a very high performance of 200 W, which can also be delivered constant. We have 3x 100 W USB-C ports with a perfect PPS range and 5 other low-power connections for smaller devices. Efficiency is also very good and exceeds the Anker Prime 200W, especially at low and medium load. The price of the charger at +- 60 € is also very bearable!
This is even a very good price for the quality offered here. Only the service distribution, if you use several devices, could be a little different for my taste. But this is complaining at a very high level and only relevant if you want to load 2x 100 w devices at the same time (only 100 + 85 W is possible). The bottom line is the Ugreen 200 W 8-Port Gan Fast Charger absolutely successful, for Power users.
