The mystery in the search for the owner of a boat washed up in Queensland’s far north has deepened.

The 16-foot boat was found off Horseshoe Bay on Magnetic Island, off Townsville, at 5.30pm on Saturday.

It has left police and locals scratching their heads with a major search and rescue launched for the boat’s driver.

Queensland ambulance said a helicopter was also tasked to assist in a search, however, no one has been found.

The green and white fibreglass ski boat, fitted with an outboard, can be seen in photos partially submerged on the holiday island and has not been claimed since its discovery.

Anyone who recognises the boat and may have information in relation to the owner and their whereabouts is urged to contact Police.
