A man allegedly armed with two knives has been arrested after fleeing from police in Sydney’s inner west.

Officers were called to a shopping complex on Belmore St in Burwood about 4.15pm on Monday following reports of suspicious activity.

When police attempted to speak to two men, they allegedly fled, sparking a foot pursuit.

Officers chased the pair before deploying a Taser and arresting a 43-year-old man allegedly in possession of the knives.

Wild footage from the scene shows two officers closing in on a man dressed in black before one deploys a handheld Taser, sending him crashing to the ground on a pedestrian crossing in front of stopped traffic.

The man, who appears to be holding knives, can then be seen trying to sit up before being tasered again.

He eventually threw the weapons away as more officers swarmed in and arrested him.

The 43-year-old was assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital for further assessment under police guard.

A second man, aged 32, was also arrested.

Investigations are ongoing.
