Magda Szubanski has made a special announcement just weeks after her surprise Logies appearance.

The Australian comedy legend has revealed she will appear at the Sydney Opera House in October for an intimate conversation about her new memoir, I Can’t Tell You But I Will.

“Hello my loves. Some exciting news — I will be out in public!!” Szubanski said in an Instagram post on Sunday.

“The book is about the challenges and treasured moments of caring for my adorable, tricky, complex, hilarious, beautiful mother Margaret as she was dying.”

The 64-year-old had taken a step back from public appearances following her diagnosis with stage 4 mantle cell lymphoma, a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer.

The TV icon has continued to keep fans and followers updated on her gruelling health battle.

In February, Szubanski revealed she had completed chemotherapy and was now in remission.

Her new book, which is due for release at the end of September, will delve into the “complexities of mother-daughter relationships”.

“But I think anyone who has cared for an elderly parent (or any loved one for that matter) will relate,” Szubanski said.

“It’s simultaneously one of the most brutal, beautiful, privileged experiences of one’s life,” she said.

“It’s impossibly hard. It’s unbelievably rewarding. You feel like it will break you. But you wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

“It’s also about caring and love in another sense. While mum was dying I was campaigning for same-sex marriage.

“Like life, the book is full of laughter and tears. I’m excited to be launching it out into the world.

“I hope people will find comfort and recognition in its pages.”

Szubanski’s return to the public eye comes after she made a surprise appearance at this year’s Logies ceremony in August.

The Kath & Kim star joined host Robert Irwin on stage to present the coveted Gold Logie, bringing her iconic character Sharon Strzelecki back to life for a hilarious skit that surprised the audience.

In the video accompanying her latest announcement, Szubanski said she was enjoying being back doing what she loves.

“I had such a fun time with Robert Irwin, doing the Logies — that was a real treat,” Szubanski said.

“So I’m looking forward to being out and back in the public again and I hope that I’ll see you there.”

After announcing Kath & Kim had been named Australia’s top TV show, one of its most loved characters graced the stage.

Iconic comedy legend Szubanski reprised her role as Sharon Strzelecki to present the Gold Logie award at the 2026 ceremony.

Dressed in Australia Zoo uniform, feathers in her hair and arm in a sling, Szubanski had the crowd roaring with laughter as she purposely mispronounced the nominee’s names before announcing Sam Pang as the Gold Logie winner.

As she was trying to leave the state she remarked the gold confetti had made it a “bit slippy”.

A year earlier, Szubanski was inducted into the Logies Hall of Fame for her nearly 40-year career.

She could not attend the 2025 ceremony in person as she was still undergoing treatment for cancer.

Szubanski accepted the award via a pre-recorded message, joking about styling her bald head to match a Gold Logie.
