A worker has died and another has been injured in a serious incident that occurred at a Central Queensland coal mine.

The tragedy has occurred at BHP’s Peak Downs mine.

The company says it appears two vehicles collided at the site early this morning.

Queensland work investigators and coal inspectors are heading to the site.

Police and ambulance staff are at the site too.

BHP says its thoughts are with the worker’s family, friends and colleagues during what it says is a difficult time.
