A woman is fighting for life after she was struck by a car in an aquatic centre carpark in Melbourne’s southeast.

The 24-year-old Bentleigh woman was part of a group of people who approached a 30-year-old man in the Noble Park Aquatic Centre on Memorial Dr about 2.50am on Saturday.

“A verbal confrontation occurred, and the man subsequently locked himself inside his white Nissan Patrol,” Victoria Police said.

“It’s alleged the group surrounded and damaged the vehicle.”

The 30-year-old man, of no fixed address, attempted to flee, and struck the woman in the process, police allege.

Witnesses took the critically injured woman to the hospital.

The driver immediately called triple-0, and drove straight to Dandenong Police Station.

Police investigators have since interviewed the man, and released him pending further investigation.

Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
