He’s notched up more than four decades on our screens and Larry Emdur’s TV CV is a mile long.

And yet the beloved Morning Show and The Chase Australia presenter doesn’t place himself in the same league as the legendary late Bert Newton.

It’s a tad ironic given Emdur already has one Gold Logie and is again nominated in the category named in Newton’s honour — the Bert Newton Most Popular Presenter Award — at the 2026 TV Week Logie Awards.

“Absolutely not,” Emdur says when asked about the comparison.

“No — that was a different generation. There’ll never be another Don (Lane), another Bert, another Graham (Kennedy’.”

“That was different times. There was only a couple of channels, and they were absolute must-see TV. Whenever there was a show with Don Lane or a Graham Kennedy show or a Bert Newton show — it was a hard lock-in. They were iconic.”

While the pair crossed paths often, with a young Emdur appearing as a guest on Newton’s long-running morning show Good Morning Australia, they never actually worked side-by-side.

“But he was an icon and the hero for me as a young guy coming into TV thinking, ‘I’d love to one day grow up and host a variety show or a morning show or a midday show or a game show’. He was doing all those things,” Emdur says.

“As a young guy, I remember looking at him thinking, ‘Wow, he is Mr TV’.”

Bert’s widow Patti has previously asked Emdur not to emulate his 2024 Gold Logie victory celebration by getting another tattoo live on air.

And Emdur is confident he won’t have to defy her wishes — or the strong support of The Morning Show viewers to do so — by again taking his pants off on air.

“I honestly, hand on heart, don’t think there’ll be an issue with this because this field is particularly strong,” he says of his category, where he is up against Logies host Robert Irwin, Amanda Keller, Hamish Blake, Julia Morris, and Lisa Millar.

“Some of my favourite people on TV are nominated with me, and I’m very realistic about the chances of me having to do anything (to celebrate) on Monday morning, so I think we’ll be fine.”

In fact, Emdur is so confident he hasn’t bothered to prepare a speech.

“I love what I do — I love my little space, but I’m very realistic about the Logies,” he says.

“2024 was the first time my name was mentioned — I went for a long 39 years thinking I’m not in the orbit of the Logies.”

Naturally, he’s keen to know whether his loyal team of Chasers have helped his cause this time around.

There were crickets when Emdur took to Instagram to ask his team of Chasers — including The Governess and Goliath — if they had voted for him.

Does he have high hopes the whole team has rectified that in the past week?

“Look, I hope so, but they’re very hard to judge, those guys,” Emdur laughs.

“But I hope so because a win for me is a win for them, right? And I’ll get to mention them on stage again.

“We’re all great mates, and I love them to death. I’d hate to find out they voted for somebody else.

“I’ll be asking to go through my votes with a fine-tooth comb.”

Renowned for buying dumb stuff to annoy wife Sylvie, Emdur confesses he has purchased something special ahead of Sunday night’s ceremony.

“I’ve organised an ankle bracelet with little pockets — so I can smuggle little bottles of (Emdur’s own) Ben Buckler whisky in.”

There’s no spray tan or massive pre-Logies routine for the 61-year-old.

In fact, he’s fitting in a quick three-day business trip to Fiji before the ceremony and has already crossed all his fingers there’ll be no hiccups with his return flights home.

There’ll be a quick six minutes in makeup before he throws on his tux ahead of the ceremony.

And despite the many years he’s spent attending the glittering event — this year at The Star in Sydney — Emdur still eagerly anticipates TV’s night of nights.

“It’s such a great night for the industry, and — as someone who just loves this industry more than anything else — I look forward to it as a proper celebration of everyone’s hard work during the year.

“I enjoy the catch-ups — everyone thinks we’d all be warring, and we hate each other. But I love this job, and most people in it.

“I’m actually a bit like a buzzy bee on the night, just bouncing around from table to table, catching up with everyone from across all the channels.”
