Professor Michel Chossudovsky argues that modern nuclear doctrine has inverted the concept of peace by portraying weapons of mass destruction as “peace-making” instruments. His work, most notably in the book “Towards a World War III Scenario: The Dangers of Nuclear War,” outlines several key critiques of current military policy:
- The “Peace-Making” Narrative: Chossudovsky contends that US and NATO military operations are often branded as “humanitarian undertakings”. He argues this narrative is a “lie” that reframes nuclear war as a tool for spreading democracy or achieving global security.
- The Normalization of “Mini-Nukes”: He criticizes the development of tactical nuclear weapons (B61-11), which military officials sometimes describe as “harmless to the surrounding civilian population”. Chossudovsky argues this categorization dangerously lowers the threshold for nuclear use.
- Preventative War Doctrine: He opposes the shift toward “pre-emptive” nuclear strikes, where the international community or specific alliances justify launching a nuclear operation to “make the world safer”.
- Geopolitical Stagnation (North Korea): Using the Korean Peninsula as an example, Chossudovsky argues the US has historically refused to transition the 1953 armistice into a permanent peace treaty. He claims the US prefers maintaining a nuclear-armed presence on the border to sustain regional dominance rather than allowing for reunification.
- Privatization of War: He characterizes modern nuclear readiness as a multi-billion dollar industry that benefits defense contractors, leading to what he calls the “privatization of nuclear war”.
Chossudovsky’s central thesis is that the “war is peace” ideology turns reality upside down, masking a “diabolical agenda” of world conquest that could lead to a nuclear holocaust.
