A food delivery driver has described the moment an alleged carjacker threatened her and stole her vehicle before leading police on a wild chase across multiple suburbs.

Authorities allege Uber Eats driver Reena Walia was targeted as she picked up an order from a Chinese restaurant on Waratah Blvd in Canning Vale, Perth, just after 6.30pm on Wednesday.

“Terrifying. Nothing like this kind of (alleged) robbery has taken place with me (before),” she told 7NEWS.

Police said Walia, 54, was approached by the stranger and “threatened”.

Walia said she threw her keys in a panic, screaming “help, help”.

She then ran back to the restaurant to sound the alarm, as her BMW 3 Series sedan was driven away.

Police allege the accused car thief dismissed their directions to stop and instead accelerated onwards before crashing about 25 kilometres away by the intersection of Roe Hwy and Great Eastern Hwy Bypass in Hazelmere.

“The driver fled the scene on foot. He was located a short time later by police hiding in bushland and was taken into custody,” WA Police said.

A 32-year-old man from Jandakot was charged with a string of offences including robbery, stealing a motor vehicle, drug possession, reckless driving to escape pursuit, and failing to stop for police.

The accused appeared in Armadale Magistrates Court on Thursday where bail was not considered.

Walia said she had been left “shaken”.

“I feel maybe next time when I do Uber Eats it’s going to be horrifying,” she said.

“I don’t feel safe.”
