An Australian military defence force base has been put into lockdown.

The Lavarack Barracks in Townville was placed under lockdown on Wednesday morning due to what is believed to be an intruder on the premises.

It is illegal to enter a defence base without proper authorisation.

A Defence spokesperson said they had responded to an incident at the barracks, but that the situation is now under control.

“Queensland Police Service were notified and attended the site,” they said.

“The incident was promptly resolved with minimal impact to Defence personnel or operations.

“Defence treats all security matters seriously and will conduct an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.”

Lavarack Barracks is known as being the largest army base in Australia.

The news comes less than a week after an incident at the Barracks left dozens of people injured.

At least 40 people were injured when after a makeshift grandstand gave way during a group photograph, sending troops tumbling metres to the ground.
