Three teenage boys will front court accused of stabbing a man while trying to break into a car.

Emergency services were called to Govan St in Langwarrin, southeast Melbourne, after reports of a man being stabbed about 12.20am on Saturday.

Paramedics arrived to find a 41-year-old man with a life-threatening stab wound and rushed him to hospital. He is now in a stable condition.

Police were told the man was attacked during a confrontation with three young men trying to break into a car.

CCTV footage from the scene shows one boy in a grey tracksuit walking around the backyard of a home.

The trio had left the scene before officers arrived.

Police on Saturday arrested two boys within hours of the incident, while a third was arrested later that night.

The trio, two aged 16 and one aged 17, have since been charged with allegedly causing serious injury in the circumstances of gross violence.

They will appear before a children’s court on Sunday.
