A teenager stabbed to death in Melbourne’s CBD was chasing dreams of becoming a world champion Muay Thai fighter.

Jojo Punvaree, 19, was stabbed during an alleged fight with another man at a licensed premises on King St about 2.40am on Sunday.

He was allegedly found with multiple stab wounds and died at the scene.

Knockoutone Muay Thai in Cheltenham has paid tribute to the young fighter saying he was a beloved member of the community.

He was taken far too soon “due to a senseless act of violence”, the gym said in a GoFundMe.

“He was very passionate about Muay Thai and he always brought his inspiring spirit with him into the gym.”

“Jojo had a fighting spirit and had dreams and goals to be a world champion Muay Thai fighter.”

Punvaree was the eldest child and only son in his family.

The gym will be holding a candlelight vigil on Monday night.

Punvaree’s alleged attacker, 19-year-old Alfie Heggs, was arrested shortly after the stabbing on Aurora Lne.

Police say Punvaree and Heggs knew each other.

Heggs was charged with one count of murder and appeared before Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday.

His lawyer told the court it was the teenager’s first time in custody, and he had no prior convictions.

He also required medication for an underactive thyroid and had previously been diagnosed with ADHD, although he had stopped taking his medication about a year ago.

Heggs, who remained quiet throughout the hearing, was remanded in custody to face a committal mention hearing in May.

Due to recent legislative changes to committal hearings, Heggs’ case is expected to be fast-tracked to the Supreme Court.
