A man has been charged with murder after an 85‑year‑old woman was found dead inside a home in Tasmania’s Huonville, a regional town south-west of Hobart.

Police were called to the Stride St property about 4.30am, where the woman — who lived at the address — was located deceased.

Detectives from the South East Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a 55‑year‑old Huonville man with murder.

It remains unclear if the man is known to the 85-year-old.

He has been detained and is expected to appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court on Monday.
