An emergency warning has been issued for Victoria’s north as an out-of-control bushfire burns.

Residents in Kerrisdale, Tallarook and Trawool have been warned to take shelter as the fire travels from the Goulburn Valley Hwy in a south-westerly direction.

“You are in danger and need to act immediately to survive,” VicEmergency said.

“The safest option is to take shelter indoors immediately. It is too late to leave.”

Those in Kerrisdale, Strath Creek and some parts of Tallarook should leave now before the fire grows too large.

Residents in Dairy Creek and Homewood should stay alert and monitor emergency warnings.

CFA fire crews and aircraft are currently fighting the blaze.

A total fire ban was declared for most of the state on Tuesday as temperatures were forecast to 36C.

There is also a risk of isolated thunderstorms particularly in the state’s west and the central districts.

“We’re seeing very dry fuels across large parts of the state, and when that’s paired with low humidity, fires can start easily and spread quickly,” CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said.

“Any spark under these conditions has the potential to turn into something serious, particularly ahead of gusty winds or thunderstorms.”
