A burst of rain has flooded parts of a major city, while commuters make their way home.

A sudden deluge has hit Sydney’s west, flooding part of Guildford train station after a burst of heavy rain dumped 15 millimetres in just minutes.

Pictures from the scene show water pooling across the concourse and spilling onto nearby roads, creating hazards for both drivers and rail commuters caught in the downpour.

Despite the flash flooding, trains are still running, with crews monitoring conditions as the storm cell moves across the city.

The brief but intense burst is part of a fast‑moving system sweeping through Sydney this afternoon, with more showers possible as it tracks east.
