A prominent family has been targeted in a brazen firebombing at their $9 million Melbourne mansion, with arsonists destroying two luxury cars in the attack.

Police say those responsible rammed the fence of the Brighton property with a car before pouring accelerant down the driveway and setting it alight about 1.20am Tuesday.

The property is home to Simon Pittard and his wife Skye, with Pittard well known in the construction industry.

The Herald Sun reports he is in a legal fight over the collapse of his former construction company, which left workers out of pocket and millions of dollars owed to creditors.

A federal court hearing is scheduled for next month, but there is no information that this firebombing is linked to that legal dispute.

Police say those inside the house weren’t hurt during the attack.

The two destroyed cars remained parked at the property on Tuesday evening.

Investigators believe it was a targeted attack.
