A driver has fled the scene of a crash, leaving behind three passengers, including an injured 11-month-old baby.

Emergency crews were called to the Gore Hwy at Southbrook, two hours west of Brisbane, about 8.30pm on Wednesday after reports of a car crash.

A Holden Commodore sedan had attempted to overtake a road train travelling in the same direction while negotiating a bend. A road train is a massive freight vehicle with multiple trailers.

Police said an oncoming semi-trailer then forced the Holden to attempt to move back into their original lane, but it collided with the front of the road train before sideswiping the trailer.

The Holden crashed, leaving the road and coming to a rest beside the highway.

Police allege the male driver fled the scene on foot into surrounding farmland.

Three Holden passengers — an 18-year-old Dirranbandi man, a 19-year-old Talwood woman and an 11-month-old baby — were assessed by paramedics and treated for minor injuries.

“The drivers of the road train, a 45-year-old Helensvale man and the semi-trailer, a 53-year-old Marsden man were not physically injured,” police said.

“The road train received significant damage to one of its trailers after it overturned while the semi-trailer and Holden sustained moderate damage.

“The crash resulted in the Gore Hwy being closed for five hours while the scene was cleared.”

The Holden driver remains on the run, with police appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant dashcam footage to contact police.
