A man has been arrested after crashing his car into a tobacconist in Adelaide in the early hours of Monday morning.

The Volkswagen SUV was driving along Grand Junction Rd in Rosewater when he smashed into the shop front about 2.30am.

The driver allegedly ran from the scene and police launched manhunt to find the absconding car owner.

The 42-year-old driver from Aldinga Beach was found on nearby Leader St where he was arrested.

He has been charged with drive under the influence, due care, breach of bail and leave the scene of a crash.

He has been refused bail and will appear before the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.

Emergency services did not immediately remove the car after fears the crash had damaged the structural integrity of the shop front, with the car seen propping up part of the awning.

Crime scene investigators have attended the scene, however, the crash is not linked to Operation Eclipse— a major South Australian police crackdown on the illicit tobacco trade.

Investigations remain ongoing.
