A western Sydney tobacconist who was kidnapped from his store in shocking scenes just weeks ago has now been arrested on firearms charges.

Bilal Bou Melham, 53, was dragged from his Mount Pritchard shop in February by four masked men and held at a derelict property in Jural for two days, suffering serious injuries.

Police stormed the property, rescuing Bou Melham and arresting a 16-year-old boy, while a second man was later arrested at Penrith.

In a dramatic turn, police have now raided Bou Melham’s shop, car, and home, allegedly seizing more than 39,000 illicit cigarettes, six firearms and prohibited drugs.

The Fairfield Local Court heard he has a lengthy criminal history, including previous jail time for firearms offences.

Magistrates noted while some of the seized firearms were replicas, the charges are still considered serious.

Bou Melham was refused bail and will remain in custody until May.

Detectives are probing possible links after the neighbouring minimart was firebombed in April last year, ram‑raided the following month and then set ablaze by masked men in June.
