Offenburg. Former javelin world champion Johannes Vetter broke off his comeback competition. The native of Dresden ended the competition in his adopted home Offenburg after a one -year injury break after the first attempt. The victory went to Julian Weber, who remains the outstanding spear thrower of the World Cup season. The best world year from Mainz won the third victory in the third competition.
At the end of 86.18 meters, Weber was clearly ahead of the competition in Offenburg. Unfavorable wind conditions and a downpour prevented even greater widths. “I am already in a top form and hope to be able to build on it with regard to the World Cup,” said the European Champion of Munich 2022. The World Championships will take place in Tokyo from September 13th to 21st. In mid -May, Weber had thrown 91.06 meters in Doha.
First competition after operation
Vetter, world champion of 2017, described the competition as one for “getting into the new season after a long injury break”. He had undergone an elbow operation last summer last year. The 32-year-old played his last competition at the German Championships in Braunschweig. There he missed the hoped -for qualification for the Olympics after lengthy complaints.
