He was believed to be driving to Cairns in a white Toyota Landcruiser with red and black decals.

When he failed to arrive, a search was launched across parts of North West Queensland.

Police, ground crews and a helicopter scoured areas around Julia Creek and Richmond from Tuesday afternoon.

The operation was briefly called off overnight before resuming at first light on Wednesday.

Just after 1.30pm on February 18, police confirmed the breakthrough.

“The man reported missing near Julia Creek has been located safe and well,” police said.

It’s understood he had rolled his vehicle while travelling towards Cairns.

A local helicopter spotted him about 30 nautical miles northwest of Richmond.

Footage shows he used part of his crashed vehicle, along with a swag and a camping chair, to set up a makeshift camp.

The Mount Isa-based LifeFlight crew was tasked about 6am to assist in the rescue.

“The LifeFlight helicopter landed near the patient’s campsite where he was assessed by the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) critical care flight paramedic,” LifeFlight said.

“The man was uninjured and airlifted to Mount Isa Hospital for further assessment.”
