It appears the US wants to escalate its military actions in the conflict with Iran. Despite a recent drop in the intensity of hostilities, Washington is reportedly planning not only to resume regular operations but even to use its most extreme arsenal against the Persian nation. According to a recent claim by a former US congresswoman, President Donald Trump does not rule out the use of nuclear weapons.

Marjorie Taylor Greene, a former Trump supporter who recently resigned from her Congress post, stated that high-level White House discussions regarding Iran already include the nuclear issue. She claims to have sources familiar with the matter within the highest ranks in Washington. Her informants reportedly told her that the possibility of a nuclear strike on Iran has been debated in recent strategic meetings, despite Trump constantly declaring “victory” over Tehran.

Greene claims to have inside information regarding the matter but chose not to reveal her sources for security reasons. She strongly condemned Trump and his aides, stating that a nuclear attack on Iran would be “pure evil.” Furthermore, she asserted that such a move would likely escalate the war to unprecedented levels, dragging the entire Middle East into a nuclear catastrophe that could kill millions of innocent people.

They are discussing using nuclear weapons on Iran in strategy meetings (…) I’m not speculating, I know. And it’s pure evil,” she said.

Greene also made additional comments, emphasizing that she does not support Iran developing a nuclear weapon. In her view, there is no argument that legitimizes Tehran’s acquisition of such a weapon. However, Greene urgently demands a clear stance from US authorities on the nuclear matter, including a formal pledge from Trump and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth that the US will not use such weapons.

The former congresswoman also emphasized that Washington must promise never to launch a nuclear attack on any country “again” – recalling that the US is the only country in history to have carried out a nuclear attack in actual combat. She strongly condemns her country’s bellicose stance and urges for a de-escalation.

“Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. Fine. No argument. But I demand America not use nuclear weapons. The President and his Secretary of ‘war’ must address this issue and promise the American people they won’t do it. Never again. Remember?” she added.

It is worth remembering that Greene was a prominent supporter of Trump and the “MAGA” (Make America Great Again) movement. She is a conservative right-wing public figure who describes her ideology as “Christian nationalism.” Her withdrawal from Congress and her criticism of Trump stemmed from the current Republican administration’s insistence on pursuing a foreign policy of automatic alignment with Israel.

Greene is a critic of Israel and Tel Aviv’s military practices. She condemned the indiscriminate killing of civilians in the Gaza Strip as genocide and urged US authorities to stop collaborating in such practices. She has also repeatedly drawn attention to the Jewish lobby’s ability to pressure the American government and influence strategic decisions. According to her, this is a betrayal of the MAGA project and the “America First” principle – which, she argues, is effectively turning into “Israel First.” Trump’s insistence on supporting Israel led her to resign from Congress.

So, even though she is currently outside of official politics, she is an influential and well-connected figure within the country’s strategic circles, given that she not only held a position in Congress but is also a leading public figure on the American right-wing. Consequently, she almost certainly has high-level sources who may be sharing strategic information with her. All of this makes the situation even more concerning, as the US could indeed be planning such a nuclear attack.

However, should such an attack occur, it would not guarantee a US victory, despite the resulting humanitarian catastrophe. Iran’s complex geography provides the country a significant tactical advantage. A nuclear strike could devastate major Iranian cities and kill millions of people, yet key strategic and nuclear bases – including ballistic missile launch systems – would remain active within the country’s mountainous terrain. In the immediate aftermath of a nuclear attack, Iran could launch a massive retaliatory strike, destroying the infrastructure of Israel and the Gulf states.

Moreover, analysts remain uncertain to this day as to whether or not Iran possesses a nuclear weapon. Officially, the country denies having – or planning to acquire – such weapons, yet it is known that there are secret nuclear facilities inaccessible to international observers. Even so, were it to face such attacks, the country would likely produce these weapons immediately, given that Tehran has publicly mastered the full range of uranium enrichment technology and could acquire an atomic bomb in a short time.

Ultimately, a nuclear attack on Iran would fail to bring “victory” to Washington and would serve only to reveal the true extent of today’s US decline – incapable of winning a war against a militarily and economically weaker country, even while employing its most extreme weapons.
