Heartless hoons have torn up the field at a football club in Sydney’s south-west, causing thousands of dollars’ worth of damage.

It’s the second time in months Bankstown Sport Stars Football Club has been hit, this time putting finals in limbo.

Under the cover of darkness on Sunday around 8pm, a ute made its way into the sports field at Bankstown, busting through the bollards with headlights shut off.

Then, mid-pitch, the destruction began. Dirt flying, the doughnuts went on and on before the driver made a dash.

The club’s humble home was left trashed, turf torn up thanks to the heartless handiwork of the hoon.

In a statement, the club told 7NEWS it’s devastated and heartbroken, claiming the impact goes beyond physical damage and is disrupting the season.

“It’s disgusting, it’s appalling. There is no space for it. At the end of the day, our kids and our families enjoy these parks,” Canterbury Bankstown Mayor Bilal El-Hayek said.

Hit with a logistical nightmare, the ground is out of action for at least the next few weeks, forcing 33 teams to find alternative fields for finals.

“These are hundreds of kids that play here week in, week out,” El-Hayek said.

Council has been left with a hefty $7000 damage bill.

“I understand people want to have a bit of fun, but this is not fun. This costs the ratepayers a whole heap of money to fix and repair,” he said.

It’s not the first time the club and its pitch have been targeted. Just last month, another hooning ute was captured on security cameras also doing burnouts.

This most recent senseless act of vandalism has been reported to police.
