Gold Coast Suns coach Damien Hardwick is forging an unprecedented alliance with his NRL neighbours in a united push to transform the glitter strip into a sporting powerhouse.

The three-time AFL premiership coach has revealed he’s working closely with Gold Coast Titans coach Josh Hannay as both clubs chase success in their respective codes, breaking down traditional barriers between Aussie rules and rugby league.

“We can learn from each other, we can grow with each other, and it’s really important that we get that relationship stronger, make a formidable partnership,” Hardwick told 7NEWS.

The collaboration is already paying dividends, with Hannay embracing the opportunity to learn from one of the game’s most decorated coaches.

“He’s a legend, so why wouldn’t I as a young coach want to sit down and spend some time with that guy?” Hannay said.

Hardwick believes the partnership could help rid the Gold Coast of its reputation as a sporting cemetery, with both clubs looking to create a dynasty from scratch.

“I’d like to think they’ve got a lot to offer us as well from a kicking and catching point of view,” Hannay said.

Hardwick added: “The city of Gold Coast to me is craving out for professional sports that are successful. Suns, Titans - I’m all in.”

Since taking the reins in 2024, Hardwick has transformed the Suns with a simple but effective philosophy.

“If there’s one phrase that can sum it up, a Suns team that scraps fights and refuses to be beaten,” he said.

“We want the Gold Coast faithful to come to this beautiful ground and sit there and watch a side that will give absolutely everything for their fans.”

The Suns start the season as second favourites for the premiership behind Queensland rivals Brisbane, having tasted finals for the first time in club history last season.

They kick their season off this Friday night against Geelong in Opening Round.
