Police have foiled a suspected gangland hit in Sydney’s south-west, arresting two men who allegedly used a drone to carry out surveillance ahead of a planned shooting.

The city is already reeling from three fatal shootings in the past 10 days, and police are confident they stopped a fourth deadly attack from happening on Thursday night.

Officers received information of a shooting planned to be carried out in the Rossmore area and immediately saturated the location with police.

At some stage early on Friday morning, they spotted a drone up over a property, which they suspected was carrying out surveillance ahead of a hit.

Detectives from the specialist Task Force Falcon squad arrested two men nearby.

They were taken to Liverpool Police Station where they spent the day being questioned.

The men are expected to be charged on Friday night with coordinating surveillance for a serious offence and participating in a criminal group.
