A fast‑moving bushfire has prompted emergency alerts on NSW’s Central Coast as firefighters work to contain the blaze on a day of total fire bans and high winds.

The fire is burning on Peats Ridge Road in Calga, about 70km north of Sydney, and as of 2pm was spreading south to south‑east towards Jones Rd, prompting authorities to warn nearby residents of potential danger.

As of 3.55pm, the Watch and Act warning for the Calga bushfire has been downgraded to Advice, with residents along Jones Rd and Peats Ridge Rd urged to monitor conditions closely as the situation may shift.

The fire continues to burn both sides of Peats Ridge Rd, and is heading south towards of Darkinjung Rd and the Pacific Motorway.

It is estimated the fire has already burnt about 16 hectares.

Drivers in the area are urged to use caution as smoke is blowing onto roads including the busy Pacific Motorway.

Emergency crews say conditions could change quickly and people in the area should check their bushfire survival plans and stay updated.
