A family preparing for their loved one’s funeral has received the shock of a lifetime after she was found alive in Nepal, 10 days after devastating floods struck the country.

The 60-year-old was pulled from a mud-soaked building in the flood-hit town of Nuwakot on Saturday.

Images released by Nepal’s army showed rescuers finding the woman covered in mud inside the damaged home.

She was given bottled water before being wrapped in a blanket and carried to safety.

Officials said she was airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment.

Her remarkable rescue came as a Chinese man, Lu Haitao, was also pulled alive from a hydropower tunnel, bringing the number of workers rescued from the Trishuli hydropower project to three.

Nepal’s army said a joint team of Nepalese military personnel and South Korean disaster experts rescued Haitao from a 225-metre tunnel.

Lu said he had repeatedly shouted when he saw the rescue crews’ lights, but they could not hear him.

“When they rescued me today, when they shone (the light) before my eyes, I couldn’t believe it,” he said.

He was taken to hospital in a stable condition, according to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.

Rescue efforts are increasingly focused on 12 hydropower projects across Nepal, where about 900 workers remain missing and roughly 500 are believed to be trapped inside tunnels.

Specialist teams from India, China, South Korea and the United States are searching through debris, damaged structures and tunnels in the hope of finding more survivors.

At least 1300 people were killed in the August 26 floods, which were likely caused by a glacier collapse.

Across the border in Tibet, 261 foreign nationals are among those still unaccounted for.

Families demand answers amid alleged China information blackout

Families of several missing people have alleged an information blackout in China, saying they have received little detail about the search and identification efforts.

“There is no information on the China side,” Tarun Choudhary, whose sister Priyanka Choudhary was at the Nepal border crossing when a mudslide struck, said.

“We can’t go to China and talk to anyone, so I’m not able to understand how things are ... There is no update from China about what is happening at Ground Zero, what is the situation over there.”

Naresh Goyal, whose sister Neetu Goyal Tiwari is missing, said her family was also awaiting answers.

“We are not getting anything from China, whether my sister is safe or alive or dead,” he said.

China’s foreign ministry has maintained its release of information about the floods has been “transparent and timely”.

At least 31 people have been confirmed dead, and 531 remain missing in Tibet, according to Chinese state news agency Xinhua.
