An elderly man has been lucky to escape serious injury after falling down a cliff in one of Sydney’s most expensive suburbs.

Emergency services were called to a residence on Upper Fairfax Rd at Mosman just after 4pm on Friday following reports of a man in distress.

Specialist crews managed to rescue the man, aged in his 80s, who suffered leg injuries in the fall.

He was in a stable condition and was treated by paramedics at the scene.

NSW Ambulance said the man refused further hospital treatment for his injuries instead choosing .

It’s been a busy start to 2026 for NSW’s emergency services with a number of tragedies rocking the state.

Beloved mum and hairdresser, Melissa Austin died after getting into distress at Dunbogan Beach, on NSW’s Mid-North coast, on Thursday.

And searches are continuing for a 14-year-old boy who went missing at Palm Beach, in Sydney’s northern beaches, after the boat he was in capsized on New Year’s Eve.

A body of man has already been recovered from the incident.

A search is also continuing for a 25-year-old man at Coogee Beach, in Sydney’s east, who has also been missing since New Year’s Eve.

NSW’s surf lifesavers have performed more than 85 rescues since Christmas Day.
