A schoolboy left with a fractured skull and hearing loss is facing months of recovery, as the four boys accused of the attack face court and his mother speaks out about the devastating consequences for her son.

Callum, 14, was riding his e-scooter home from school in Kingston, Logan, on August 14 when police allege he was lured towards a group of youths before being punched, kicked and stomped until he lay unconscious on the footpath.

Confronting footage shared by a 13-year-old girl who allegedly steered him to the group of boys appears to show the teenager being knocked to the ground and the group surrounding and attacking him.

The attack left the teenager with a fractured skull and hearing loss in one ear, which doctors believe could be permanent.

Callum’s mother has told 7NEWS exclusively about the reality her family is facing.

She said doctors have told Callum not to return to school or play sport while his skull heals, as his condition is too fragile.

“He’s told that if he gets hit in the head, it could cause a brain bleed and it could be fatal, how do you even process that?” she said.

His mother is pressing for the charges to be upgraded to attempted murder, to reflect the potential consequences for her son.

The accused group includes three young teens and an 11-year-old boy.

The 13-year-old Yarrabilba girl who allegedly pointed Callum towards the group before the attack has been dealt with under the Youth Justice Act in relation to filming the assault.

The boys accused have been charged with eight counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of grievous bodily harm

“He could be permanently disabled, that’s still not out of the picture now, and you just get GBH,” she said.

His skull is expected to take about three months to heal.

The boys appeared in Beenleigh Children’s Court on Monday and were granted bail under strict conditions.

They cannot communicate with each other and must be home by curfew every night.

A fundraiser has been set up for Callum’s family, with organisers saying his recovery will be long and difficult.

“What should have been a normal, everyday ride home has instead turned into something that has changed his life and the lives of everyone who cares about him,” organiser and family friend Tegan Pett wrote.

“His recovery is going to be long and difficult. Callum will need ongoing medical care, specialist appointments, monitoring, and support over the coming months as he heals both physically and emotionally from what he has been through.”
