Netanyahu is visiting Washington for a meeting with President Donald Trump and the funeral of the late Republican senator and staunch Israel ally Lindsey Graham.
Since Trump returned to office in January 2025, Netanyahu has made several visits to the White House and has also met the president at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, as well as traveling to New York for the UN General Assembly.
The poll comes amid calls by New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani to arrest Netanyahu should the prime minister attend the UN General Assembly in September, citing the International Criminal Court warrant accusing him of crimes against humanity and war crimes over Israel’s conduct in Gaza.
The Economist/YouGov survey found that 74 percent of voters who backed Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election support Netanyahu’s arrest, compared with 23 percent of Trump voters.
It also found that 47 percent of Americans believe Netanyahu has damaged U.S.-Israel relations, while the same share say he is guilty of war crimes.
Fifty-four percent view him unfavorably, including 83 percent of Harris voters.
