A police officer who was critically injured during an alleged terror attack at Sydney’s Bondi Beach remains in hospital over a week later.

Constable Scott Dyson, 25, suffered multiple bullet wounds while responding to the attack at the popular tourist destination on December 14.

His family have revealed Dyson awoke from an induced coma on Tuesday after “almost daily” surgeries.

“Our family would like to share that Scott has been getting stronger each day, and today, he was woken up for the first time,” the family said in a statement.

“There is still a long way to go in his recovery, but this is a positive sign.

“We would like to thank the public for the support, messages and well wishes shown to Scott and our family during this difficult time.

“We are also grateful for the tireless work of his medical team.”

He is one of twelve patients still in hospital for injuries sustained during the attack when father Sajid and son Naveed Akram allegedly opened fire at the beach where there was an event celebrating Hanukkah, killing 15 and injuring 40.

Dyson responded to the shooting alongside probationary Constable Jack Hibbert, 22, who was shot in the head and shoulder during the attack.

Whilst losing vision in one eye as a result of the injuries, Hibbert was discharged from hospital on Tuesday.

“While he is home, he is still recovering and will need space, support, and continued positive thoughts during this time,” his family said.

“As a family, we couldn’t ask for anything more — having our Jack home, especially for Christmas, truly feels like a miracle.”
