An alleged knifeman has been charged with a Melbourne murder.

He is accused of stabbing a 43-year-old man to death inside a block of flats on Napier St in Fitzroy, an inner city of Melbourne, on December 22.

The victim was taken to hospital but did not survive his injuries.

Investigations led police to execute two search warrants on Napier St on Friday where a raid was carried out with assistance from the Special Operations Group.

A 23-year-old Fitzroy man was arrested and interviewed by police.

He was charged on Saturday with one count of murder.

He is set to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Police allege the 23-year-old man and the victim were known to each other.

The arrest over the alleged Fitzroy murder in December took place only hours before another man was killed just metres south on Napier St.

Shots rang through the inner north suburb just after midnight, before a body was found at the intersection of Brunswick St and King William St.
