While summer brings with it the prospect of longer, warmer days and more time spent outdoors, if you’re anything like me (also known as a new homeowner, with a large garden), it also means dry, brown grass.
But if you don’t want to spend the summer months watering your lawn, there’s now a gadget to help you with that.
Meet the Aiper IrriSense 2 Smart Irrigation System.

The brand new hose-attached smart sprinkler maps your garden, rotates on command, and measures water use, taking care of your lawn and watering it with the simple touch of a button.
A set and forget system for the garden that means it will look and feel good all year round without the effort? I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this gadget and put it through its paces.
So how did I get on?

According to Aiper, the $999.99 gadget is the world’s first 4-in-1 Multi-Zone smart irrigation system.
While it seems like a simple device, it’s actually a four-in-one beast that replaces the need for four other items.
Think your irrigation controller, sprinkler, electric valve and nutrient feeder.
Aiper say that with this system, users use 40 per cent less water compared to a traditional hose, meaning you can save both time and money when making your lawn look beautiful.
Thankfully, while you might expect the Irrisense 2 to only be able to deal with a small plot of grass, in actual fact it’s very powerful.
The Irrisense can cover lawns of up to 445 metres squared, with a 12-metre spray range.
You can also manage various different parts of your lawn through the Aiper app, meaning you can have multiple watering zones with independent schedules and depths, depending on what is going on at different areas of your garden.
Other nifty features include smart scheduling for when you need it, EvenRain technology, which simulates natural rainfall to distribute water evenly, preventing soil erosion and adaptive scheduling and real-time notification, meaning you can monitor your lawn from anywhere in the world.
It also promises it can be installed and used in as little as 15 minutes — a godsend if you’re like me and detest installing gadgets.

I’ve been using this gadget for the past few weeks now, and think it’s one of the most sophisticated products I’ve come across.
While it’s large, and larger than I expected, the Irrisense is extremely powerful.
Like a robot vacuum, it has managed to get into all of the corners and crannies of our garden and water them.
I love how customisable it is, too.
You can decide how much water to use in each area for lawns, flowers, shrubs, vegetable gardens and more with the simple touch of a button in an app — taking all of the hard work out of looking after our new garden.
It’s also amazing that all you need to get started is a hose, power (maybe an extension cord) and Bluetooth.

To get started, all we had to do was select Area mode, define the boundaries of the area, and let Aiper do the rest.
When it comes to negatives, there aren’t many, but I do think that at $999.99, it’s quite an expensive investment.
And I’m also not convinced that it soaks the garden with a “fine mist”, like Aiper say, more of a good watering.
But on the whole, I think if you’ve got a garden that’s exposed to a lot of sunlight and don’t want to spend all of the warmer months watering it, it’s a fantastic investment.
I love how easy it is to now look after our garden, and how much healthier it’s looking going into the summer.
