The event continues to grow in popularity, with new Afterpay data revealing that during the March 2026 sale, daily discretionary spending on Afterpay jumped 21 per cent, while shopper numbers increased 18 per cent compared to a typical Thursday–Sunday period.

Afterpay Day is a major biannual four-day shopping event hosted by the digital payment platform Afterpay.

It typically happens in March and August, returning from August 13 to August 16 in 2026.

The event continues to grow in popularity, with new Afterpay data revealing that during the March 2026 sale, daily discretionary spending on Afterpay jumped 21 per cent, while shopper numbers increased 18 per cent compared to a typical Thursday–Sunday period.

Opening day was the biggest yet, with Thursday spend soaring 30 per cent above a normal Thursday.

The latest “nesting” trend shows shoppers prioritising smarter storage, comfort and everyday upgrades, with Afterpay data showed a surge in home spending during the March 2026 sale across retailers including JB Hi-Fi’s home range (up 26%), Pillow Talk (up 15%), IKEA (up 11%), Officeworks and Adairs.

Fashion and beauty continue to dominate the event, with new Afterpay data revealing the March 2026 sale saw spending on fashion jump 34% and beauty rise 31%, making them two of the fastest-growing categories.

Viral beauty favourites also flew off the shelves, with MAC Lip Duos, Clinique Moisture Surge and Paula’s Choice Peptide Moisturiser among the most-purchased products.

New Afterpay data reveals Australians are prioritising experiences, with entertainment spending growing 10% year-on-year across established Australian merchants during the last Afterpay Day sale — making it one of the fastest-growing categories overall.

“Australians are becoming more deliberate about when they shop, and Afterpay Day is increasingly a moment they plan around. With spending up 21% at our last event, shoppers can use this August’s sale to get ahead on Christmas, check out with Afterpay and — provided payments are made on time — have purchases paid off well before Santa arrives,” said Emily Marshall, Director of Trade & Partner Marketing APAC at Afterpay said in a statement.
