Richmond’s premiership defender Nathan Broad and North Melbourne ruck Tristan Xerri are the latest names to be added to the AFL’s State of Origin squads.

7NEWS chief AFL reporter Mitch Cleary has revealed that Broad, 32, has been tapped on the shoulder by WA while Xerri (who was unlucky to miss out on an All-Australian blazer last year) will represent Victoria.

Broad is a three-time premiership veteran and has a 170 games of experience.

He was drafted out of WAFL club Swan Districts as a mature-aged recruit in 2015 and became a key figure in Richmond’s recent golden era, featuring in their 2017, 2019 and 2020 premiership sides.

He is the first Tiger to be picked for either the hosts or Victoria.

“With Richmond’s Nathan Broad in for WA ... every club is now represented,” Cleary said.

However, Geelong’s superstar forward Jeremy Cameron is in growing doubt to take his place on the field.

“Four months on from that broken arm on grand final day, Cameron remains on a modified training program,” Cleary said.

“His right arm heavily strapped and he’s wearing a fluoro cap to signify no contact from teammates (at training).

“He’s still building confidence in the injury, 12 days out from Origin.”

The blockbuster clash at Optus Stadium is on February 14 (and will be live and free on Seven and 7plus Sport).

Cameron’s likely omission is a huge blow for the Big V.

He kicked an astonishing 88 goals last season to win his second Coleman Medal.

Geelong trio Max Holmes, Tom Stewart and Patrick Dangerfield have been named for the Vics while club teammate Lawson Humphries will wear WA colours.

A total of 21 players have already been announced publicly for WA but The West Australian has also revealed that West Coast forward Jake Waterman and Western Bulldogs ruck Tim English will also feature for the hosts.

West Coast defender Reuben Ginbey shapes as one of the leading contenders to claim one of the remaining places in the WA squad, but he will not be joined by fellow Eagle Brady Hough after Hough suffered an ankle injury at training last week which is set to leave him sidelined for around a month.

Fremantle recruit Judd McVee and veteran mid Jaeger O’Meara will also be hoping to earn call-ups for WA, while the Dockers’ two-time leading goalkicker Josh Treacy has not yet had his place in Victoria’s side confirmed.

Both WA and Victoria are set to finalise their squads later this week before the two teams go into camp in Perth next week.
