St Kilda have emerged as the club Jake Stringer is likely to join for the 2027 season, with conversations between both parties escalating rapidly in the last 72 hours.

Stringer kicked 48 goals at GWS in 2026 but was not offered a new contract and struggled to find another AFL home throughout the trade period.

He met with new Bombers coach Mark McVeigh at Friction Cafe in Essendon last Sunday. Stringer is married to McVeigh’s cousin.

The Stringer camp was hopeful of an opportunity to return to Tullamarine after the coffee catch-up, however, the Bombers later claimed it was a broad meeting rather than a contract pitch.

It is believed the Saints are now working through the finer details of an arrangement.

A formal offer to the 250-gamer is likely to land in the coming days.

The new lifeline would make the 32-year-old Stringer a four-club player, after stints with the Western Bulldogs, Essendon and GWS.

Stringer was originally drafted to the Bulldogs with pick No.5 in 2012 and played 89 games in five years at the Kennel, including the 2016 premiership, before a move to Essendon ahead of the 2018 season.

The 2015 All-Australian had an up-and-down stint at the Bombers, but ultimately still won the club’s goalkicking award three times before being essentially put on the scrapheap at the end of 2024.

He arguably had his best season in that year, too, booting 42 goals, but headed to the Giants on a two-year deal.

While Stringer is keen to continue his AFL career next season, he is happy to move on if things don’t work out.

In other news, North Melbourne have emerged as Elijah Tsatas’ most likely home for 2027. Tsatas played 22 games at the Bombers after being taken at Pick 5 in the 2022 draft.
