Mugen has given the new Honda Prelude a more aggressive look, revealing a range of cosmetic upgrades – plus a mechanical one – for the revived Japanese sports coupe.

The long-time Honda tuner and performance parts manufacturer has released a full list of parts for the new sixth-generation Prelude.

Deliveries will begin in Japan from April 24, 2026.

The list of components includes front and rear under spoilers, a rear spoiler and diffuser trim, and side garnishes, all in carbon-fibre.

Also available is a sports exhaust system which Mugen says is “designed to deliver a powerful, impressive sound and deep bass from low to high rpm” and “a more linear and uplifting sound when used with the Honda S+ Shift”.

As the new Prelude doesn’t have a conventional mechanical transmission, Honda has developed S+ Shift which emulates an eight-speed auto by offering the same “sharp gear shifting feel”.

Mugen offers parts for a wide range of Honda vehicles, from the Fit (aka Jazz) through to the Civic and Civic Type R, the defunct Legend flagship sedan, and even the Vezel (aka HR-V) and Odyssey.

Its upgrades are available in Australia through Nine-W. Local timing and availability for these Prelude parts has yet to be announced.

The born-again Prelude is due on sale here during the first half of 2026, when it will become the first new generation of the iconic coupe nameplate in over 20 years.

It’s also the first Prelude to offer a hybrid powertrain.

The latter incorporates a 2.0-litre Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder petrol engine producing 104kW of power and 182Nm of torque, mated with a 133kW/315Nm electric motor for total outputs of 147kW and 315Nm.

These outputs are well down on the 235kW/420Nm on the turbocharged (but not hybridised) 2.0-litre engine found in the Civic Type R, with which the Prelude shares its chassis.

The Prelude features ‘dual-axis’ strut front suspension with multi-link rear suspension, as well as adaptive dampers borrowed from the Civic Type R but retuned for the Prelude.

Like every previous generation of Prelude, the new car is only available with front-wheel drive. However, for the first time there’s no manual transmission available.

Local pricing for the reborn coupe has yet to be announced.
