The BYD Shark 6 has made serious waves in the hotly contested dual-cab ute market, becoming Australia’s best-selling plug-in hybrid (PHEV) ute in 2025 despite initially being offered in a single model grade.
That changes for 2026, with the existing Premium now joined by a cheaper cab/chassis variant dubbed the Dynamic, while a new range-topping Performance variant brings a larger engine and the sought-after 3500kg braked towing capacity – a benchmark for dual-cab utes set by segment leaders such as the Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux.
Pricing for the Premium remains unchanged at $57,900 before on-road costs, despite increasing competition from rivals including the pricier GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV and the more expensive Ford Ranger PHEV, both launched last year.

Drivetrains and Efficiency
The Shark 6 has two powertrains, but both are plug-in hybrid. The Dynamic cab/chassis and the Premium use a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors.
Supplied Credit: CarExpertThe Performance runs a larger 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and a more powerful front-axle motor, but the same output rear-axle motor.
All Shark 6 model grades are all-wheel drive and have double-wishbone coil-spring suspension front and rear. Vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality is standard, including a V2L adapter, allowing you to power small appliances.
Dimensions
There are two body styles, with the Shark 6 Dynamic is exclusively offered as a dual-cab/chassis, with the Premium and Performance dual-cab running a pickup body. Dimensions of the cab/chassis vary due to the type of tray fitted to the vehicle at the time of/after purchase.
